Facial Scars and Keloids
When the skin is injured from a cut, the body heals the area by forming scar tissue. Scars that occur on the face are difficult because there is no easy way to cover them up.
Once a scar is present, there is no way to get rid of it completely. The goal in scar treatment is to minimize the scar and blend it into the surrounding skin.
This can be done by several techniques. These include surgical revision of the scar, steroid injections, laser treatments, and dermabrasion. These techniques can help improve these facial flaws and can increase overall self-confidence.
Occasionally scars will undergo a process where there is an overgrowth of collagen at the site of a healed skin injury.
This extra tissue can grow beyond the boundaries of the original wound. This process is called a Keloid.
This is seen frequently in people of African descent. The keloids are oftentimes injected to help reduce the size and future growth.
However, most keloids need surgical revision to excise the excessive scar tissue.
The site is then closed and steroid injections are often done to try to help the keloid from returning.

Moles occur when cells, called melanocytes, in the skin grow in a cluster instead of being spread throughout the skin.

The mole virtually melts away. This Ellman Radiowave decreases the lateral thermal damage to the surrounding tissue thus decreasing the resulting scar.
Generally, Dr. Hammond will remove the mole just below the skin surface creating a slight saucerization of the area. The skin will eventually fill in and level off, giving a nice aesthetic outcome.
